Ashoka University’s undergraduate B.A./B.Sc. Honours and Honours with Research degree programme spans over four years and is designed to expose students to a wide range of perspectives inside and outside the classroom. This allows students ample opportunity to explore courses across various disciplines, engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular pursuits, uncover new areas of interest, and alter the course of their academic journey. Furthermore, the programme aligns with the New Education Policy outlined by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2020, reflecting the university’s commitment to modern educational standards. Students will immerse themselves in nine mandatory Foundation Courses and select their Major by the third semester. Additionally, they have the flexibility to choose Minors/Concentration options. Completion of credits from these courses, along with internships, is necessary for graduation
The undergraduate programme offers 13 pure and 12 interdisciplinary majors, minors/concentration in all pure majors plus 10 others, various co-curricular, and nine mandatory foundation courses including Critical Thinking.
Ashoka University’s undergraduate programme features a well-structured curriculum comprising four essential categories—Foundation Courses, Major Courses (Interdisciplinary Majors), Co-Curricular Courses, and Internship. To graduate with a B.A./B.Sc. Honours or Honours with Research degree, students are required to fulfill the prescribed credit requirements within each category. The majority of courses are assigned 4 credits, whereas co-curricular courses carry 2 credits. Internships can either be of 2 or 4 credits, with a minimum of 2 credits being mandatory for graduation.
As part of the programme, students must complete 9 Foundation Courses, which include the mandatory Introduction to Critical Thinking. The Major field demands a minimum of 72 credits (depending on the Major chosen, it might increase), providing students with an in-depth understanding of their chosen discipline. A student has to complete an overall of 160 credits to graduate. Furthermore, the pursuit of a minor necessitates the completion of 6 courses (equivalent to 24 credits) outside of the chosen Major field, allowing students to explore diverse academic interests.
Ashoka University’s list of graduate academic programmes provides students with exhaustive knowledge of their subject areas and prepares them to tackle future real-world problems and challenges.
Ashoka PhD Programme carries a strong emphasis on foundational knowledge, academic research and hands-on experiences with real-world challenges. Ashoka envisions a future where researchers combine curiosity based intellectual pursuits with a strong commitment to solving complex problems with societal impact.
In a research institution, everyone is hired to do similar tasks that revolve around research. However, the university is an ecosystem that creates opportunities for students based on their interests. The mission of a liberal arts/sciences research university should be sensitive to this need. There exists a possibility to bring people with different interests and expertise onto the same platform to carry out focused research.
Key Aspects of Ashoka’s PhD Programme:
Interdisciplinary Research, Partnership with Industry and Policymakers, and Integrated Teaching with Research
Ashoka University offers an intensive six-week study programme, during the summer for undergraduate students. The summer semester is held in person at Ashoka campus with exception of field courses which takes students to the Himalayan regions or to the plains of Central India. A range of four-credit courses (40 contact hours, equivalent to 7.5 ECTS) is offered across disciplines.
Enrolling for the summer semester provides an opportunity for Ashokans and international students to take courses that helps to gain additional credits, accelerate in their academic pathway or simply explore other areas of interest. In order to maximize the benefit of the summer semester, all students are encouraged to seek academic advising before registering for courses. The summer term also provides the opportunity to take courses from international visiting faculty on cutting-edge research topics, experience field-based courses, ethnographic courses and more.

Nurturing young minds to be the nation building leaders of tomorrow
Launched in 2023, the Lodha Genius Programme is a joint initiative between Lodha Foundation and Ashoka University inspired by a shared vision for how today’s youth can be empowered to impact India’s future. Today, this vision is defined as the ambition to significantly increase the proportion of Indians who will reach their full potential as changemakers, leaders and philanthropists by nurturing and inspiring the nation’s brightest young minds and instilling in them the spirit of giving back to the nation and society. To enable this vision Lodha Foundation has been committedly providing all the resources required for growth and development of these young minds.
This multi-year educational programme is fully funded and nurtures India’s brightest young minds from Grade 9 through to their early career. The programme provides the students with a unique blend of immersive science and mathematics courses, practical life skills lessons, sustained and regular support from mentors and exclusive access to prestigious internship opportunities. A key highlight of the programme is our inspiring Great Ideas Seminar series in which leading scientists, mathematicians and industry experts from around the world invite students to understand the active conversations and unsolved problems faced by experts today.
The Lodha Genius Programme complements all major examination boards, enabling students to take their studies further and to understand the career paths available to them in their chosen fields.
When a student joins the Lodha Genius Programme, they become a member of a diverse and inclusive community which grows into a strong, supportive network of mentors and peers as they progress in their studies and careers.
