This course concerns the fundamentals of Distributed Systems. Topics include introduction to distributed systems. definition of a distributed system, overview of key issues such as accessibility, transparency, scalability etc., types of distributed systems, distributed system architecture, processes, virtualization, cluster management, issues and trade-offs associated with distributed system design, communication protocols, naming, clock synchronization, election algorithms, replication, load-balancing, CAP theorem, BASE, distributed file systems, fault-tolerance & security, and an overview of topics such as Cloud Computing and distributed web-based systems.
