Collaborations

International Conference in collaboration with Cambridge University

A significant achievement for the centre has been successfully securing a grant from Cambridge University for collaboration, conference, and research titled ‘The Past, Present and Future of the Psych-Clinic: Global Perspectives’. This conference which was scheduled to be in December 2020 has now been rescheduled (owing to the pandemic) for the summer of 2021.

This research collaboration between Cambridge University and Ashoka University is motivated by the need to address the increasingly urgent global and Indian issue of mental health, and to place these questions in relation to psychotherapeutic and social science perspectives on psychic life. This collaboration will create a unique flagship network in which anthropologists and historians will be in dialogue with clinical practitioners to address what is increasingly coming to be recognised as a mental health crisis in India.

This initiative and partnership between Dr. Arvinder Singh and Dr. Bhrigupati Singh at Ashoka University with Dr. Shruti Kapila at Cambridge University will create a unique and flagship network between scholars and practitioners across India, Cambridge, and the wider world of mental health, illness, and wellness that have come to be recognised as increasingly critical issues worldwide.

It would be important to point out that ours was the only collaboration that received a grant in these difficult times when most universities are facing financial difficulties.
