Gautam Bhatia is a constitutional lawyer, law scholar, and science fiction writer. This seminar is based on his book, Horizontal Rights: An Institutional Approach (Hart 2023), which articulates and defends a theory of horizontal rights under contemporary constitutionalism, and applies it to modern-day problems around platform work, unpaid domestic labour, and so on. His latest work is the SF novel, The Sentence, which explores ideas around the death penalty, ethics, justice, and anarchism in a science fiction setting.
