A Walk in the Privacy Zoo: Unpacking CS and Legal Perspectives
In this presentation, we’ll embark on an exploratory journey through the multifaceted realm of privacy within computer science. We’ll delve into key paradigms such as anonymisation, inferential and differential privacy, zero-knowledge proofs, and secure multiparty computation. Along the way, we’ll uncover some intriguing impossibility results that challenge conventional notions of privacy. In parallel, we’ll bridge these computer science perspectives to legal definitions of privacy, touching on critical concepts like consent, regulatory control, purpose limitation, and privacy-by-design. This dual approach aims to highlight pivotal questions and opportunities for interdisciplinary discourse, beckoning attention from scholars in both computer science and legal studies.
