Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can I meet the overall 100 credit (116 in case of interdisciplinary major) requirement with fewer FCs?

You can make up the remaining credits by taking different courses (FCs, CTs, MMs), giving you more scope to both explore or specialise.

UG 17-20 (Rising 3rd years)

Q. I have done SPF, Indian Civ, Principles of Science, Lit & the World, EVS and Mind & Behaviour. Do I still have to do Math?

Yes. This will mean that you will have 7 FCs in all but Math (QRMT or Calculus)  is mandatory for your cohort

Q. I have done 7 FCs including Indian Civs, EVS and QRMT. These 7 include Great Books and Literature & the World from the Humanities. Can I stop one of those two grades from Humanities from counting?

You do have an extra course. However,  this facility of replacing an FC grade or allowing it to not count is not available for your cohort. As before, only if the grade is C- or below, and you retake the course, will the earlier grade stop counting.

Q. If I have taken 6 FC courses including EVS and Math, do I still have to take Indian Civilizations?

You can take either Indian Civilizations or any other FC that you haven't done before. Since Indian Civilizations is not a part of your existing 6 FC courses, you will have to take a 7th course. These 7 however, need not include Indian Civilizations.

Q. If I have done 6 courses- Indian Civilizations, EVS, QRMT, SPF, Great Books, Literature and the World, do I have to take a 7th FC?

No.  You can stay with 6 FCs because you meet all mandatory requirements- EVS, Indian Civilizations, Math and three other courses.

UG 18-21 (Rising 2nd Years)

Q. I have done 5 courses including EVS,  Indian Civilizations, QRMT, and one course each out of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Do I still have to take one more?

Yes. You must take 6 FC courses in all. You don't have the option of taking only 5 courses even if you meet the mandatory and the area requirements

Q. I have taken EVS, QRMT, Indian Civilizations, SPF and Lit and the World. Do I still have to take another FC?

Yes. You must take 6 FC courses in all. You don't have the option of taking only 5 courses. However, the 6th course can be from any area.

Q. I have taken EVS, Indian Civilizations, Principles of Science, Great Books, Literature and the World and SPF. Do I still have to take a Math course?

No. You have 6 courses, which include the mandatory courses - Indian Civilizations and EVS. You also have taken one course each from the 3 areas. So you don’t have to take a Math course. Math is not mandatory for your cohort.

Q. I have taken 7 courses including the mandatory courses. In these 7 , I have QRMT and Principles of Science. I want my QRMT grade to stop counting. Is this possible?

Yes. You can request for this. Since QRMT ( or any Math course)  is no longer mandatory, and you have another course in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences,  you can take the advantage of not counting this grade.

Q. I have taken 7 courses including the mandatory courses. In these 7, I have Great Books and Literature and the World. Since both these courses are from the same area- Humanities, I want my Great Books grade to stop counting. Is this possible?

No. This concession is only available for a math (QRMT or Calculus) course since that course was earlier mandatory.

Q. I have taken all the FC courses I need to, in order to finish my requirement within the academic year 19-20. However, I failed one course or want to improve my grade. Will I be allowed to do this in the academic year 20-21 which will be my final year.

Yes. Retakes will be allowed in 20-21.
