YIF Overview

A Yearlong Fellowship. A Fellow For Life.

Started in 2011, the Young India Fellowship (YIF) grooms socially conscious leaders and change makers for the 21st century. Offered as Ashoka University’s flagship postgraduate diploma in liberal studies, the YIF is unlike any other graduate-level academic programme. It gives Fellows an opportunity to explore multiple academic and professional avenues within a year. Through the YIF, several Fellows have discovered their passion and many have switched their academic or professional trajectories.

At the YIF, we offer you an opportunity to understand the world better, engage with multiple perspectives and explore areas of study, research and practice that are unique to YIF and the Ashoka ecosystem. Our aim is to help Fellows become well-rounded individuals who are able to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate meaningfully, and become leaders with a commitment to public service. We believe that these 21st century skills are fundamental to leading impactful change in an increasingly complex world. You will study a curated selection of 20 courses taught by renowned educators, work on a team-based project to solve a real-world problem, undergo a critical writing programme, be mentored by a stalwart, and receive career development support.

We collaborate with leading institutions from across the world towards faculty, student and curriculum exchange. Institutions include the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; King's College, London; Sciences Po, Paris; University of California, Berkeley; Trinity College, Dublin; Wellesley College and Yale University.

After completing the programme, Fellows will join a lifelong community of over 1700 YIF alumni, who are spread across the world and are shaping society in different ways.
