1. What is YSP-Urban Lab?
  • YSP-Urban Lab is a certified programme for high school students on social impact and change! aIn its introductory year, YSP-Urban Lab is offered as a two-weekend programme that follows the 5-day YSP Winter. This programme provides students with an opportunity to develop a holistic view of the world, challenge themselves intellectually, and become sensitized action-oriented young adults.

2. What are the dates of the YSP-Urban Lab programme?
  • Dec 26-30, 2020, Jan 2 - 3, 2021 & Jan 9 - 10, 2021 (only Saturday and Sunday in January)
  • These dates are not likely to change
3. What is the last date for the submission of the application?
  • The deadline for applications is 17th November 2020.
4. What is the fee for the YSP Urban Lab programme?
The charges for the programme are as follows:
  • An application fee of Rs. 500/- has to be paid with the submission of the completed application form. This is non-refundable.
  • Total YSP-Urban Lab course fee is INR 40,000/- 
  • If selected the student has to pay the full fees to secure their spot.
5. What do the programme fees include?
  • The programme fee includes access to all the online sessions in the course duration, including academic presentations, speaker’s series, case study based discussions, interactive workshops and activities, follow-up reading materials and so on.
6. Is scholarship/financial aid available?
  • Yes, need-based financial aid is available.
7. How does one apply for financial aid?
  • There is a financial aid section available in the online application form, which needs to be filled in completely with all the required details and documents.
8. How is students’ financial need assessed for financial aid?
  • Based on the information provided in the financial section of the application, the need for aid is reviewed by a committee and the decision is communicated to the applicant.
9. What is the programme schedule? 
  • Programme days will include academic presentations, creative multimedia activities, small group discussions, sessions with change-makers and much more. Typically, the timings will be from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm with several breaks in between. The days are creatively designed to engage young minds in the best possible manner by eminent Ashoka faculty and staff with ample breaks in between. 
  • The final, detailed schedule will be shared with the selected students, closer to the programme dates.
10. Can I sign-up for YSP Winter and then extend to YSP Urban Lab? 
  • These two programmes have different learning outcomes and students enrolled are treated as separate cohorts. Once you have registered and accepted enrollment based on your selection, you cannot change to YSP-Urban Lab. We recommend you think through this choice carefully. 
11. What is the last day for making the payment
  • Thursday, December 7th, 2020
12. Who are the counsellors?
  • The counsellors are some of Ashoka’s finest students, carefully chosen after a rigorous selection process. They are trained to work and lead activities of YSP-Urban Lab with high school students.
13. Who is the faculty?
  • All YSP-Urban Lab faculty are members of the teaching staff at Ashoka and are some of the foremost academicians in their fields with several papers to their credit. They have years of experience teaching talented students across the world. In addition, sessions will be conducted by experienced facilitators in the field of social change and impact from the partner centres.
14. What are the criteria for selection for the YSP Urban Lab at Ashoka?
  • A holistic selection process is designed to determine the potential merit of the students. The evaluation is based upon academic performance, co-curricular activities and the essays to be written as part of the application.
15. What are the academic requirements for the application?
  • You are required to upload a minimum of one and/or a maximum of two previous years’ marksheets of the classes attended. For example, if you are currently in class 10, you can submit the marksheet of class 8 & class 9, if both are available. Or else any one either from class 8 or 9 will do.
16. Is there a minimum percentage requirement to apply for the YSP Urban Lab Programme?
  • No, there is no cut-off percentage for applying to the programme. 
17. Is there a waitlist?
  • Yes, there is a waitlist. Waitlisted students will be informed, and in case of vacancies, they will be contacted after admissions have been finalized.
18. How will the candidates be notified about their admissions decision?
  • Candidates will be notified about the admission decision by email. The emails are actively monitored and responded to, with the required information promptly.
19. Do students get a certificate for the YSP Urban Lab?
  • Yes, all students will be given a certificate on successful completion of the programme, provided all sessions are attended and there has been desirable participation by the student.
20. Will attending the programme increase my chances of admission to the undergraduate programme at Ashoka University?
  • Attending the YSP Urban Lab programme will give you an insight into liberal arts & sciences education at Ashoka University and further equip you with different tools and techniques to plan social impact projects. This will help you understand a holistic student profile and engage with your community better. Learnings from such a programme will help you discover your interests and reflect the same in your undergraduate application form.  However, this does not guarantee you an admission to Ashoka UG programme.
21. Are there any terms and conditions/code of conduct for the programme?
Yes, all YSP student participants will have to accept terms and conditions that will include:
  • Being Responsible and ethical netizens 
  • Being Sensitive & committed to learning 
  • Offensive language on any platform will not be tolerated
  • All admitted students will have to sign an undertaking at the beginning of the programme
22. Will I have to attend all the sessions? 
  • YSP-Urban Lab is a very engaging programme, attending each session will add value to your learning and facilitate the progress for the subsequent topics of discussion. Hence, attendance and participation are strongly advised for a meaningful experience and also to obtain the programme certificate.
23. Who are the YSP-Urban Lab Partners?
  • YSP-Urban Lab has partnered with two centers of excellence at Ashoka University, the Centre for Social & Behavioral Change (CSBC) and the Center for Social Impact and Philanthropy (CSIP). CSBC works towards impactful behaviour change interventions for poor and marginalised communities especially in the areas of nutrition, sanitation, maternal health, family planning and financial services. While CSIP works towards advance and informs strategic philanthropy across India through data, dialogue, partnerships and leadership development. An exclusive series of interactive sessions with these centers will give students an opportunity to have an in depth conversation with experts from these centers.
24. Why should I consider joining?
  • YSP-Urban Lab will facilitate conversations on issues around you and will provide a framework for better understanding, equipping you with the skills needed to initiate action towards social and civic impact. Over the course of two-weekends, you will get a chance to listen to world class faculty presentations, participate in case study based discussions and interactive sessions by centers of excellence at Ashoka University - CSIP and CSBC, who are the forefront for work in the social and development sector. This programme will help you make and enhance your own social impact initiatives and projects.
25. Are there any technical prerequisites for attending this online programme? 
  • Yes, since the YSP Urban Lab programme will be delivered online, a good basic Internet connectivity and a laptop or desktop is needed for attending YSP Urban Lab. There should be adequate internet bandwidth for attending meetings and sessions both with your audio and video. It will be ideal to find a quiet corner from where you can login to absorb all the learning coming your way!
26. What is the cancellation policy?
Selected students can choose to withdraw from the programme, although the following conditions will be applicable:-
Withdrawal Date
Before 25 November
  • Full course fee will be refunded, there will be no deduction of the processing charges (except any GST taxes as applicable)
Between 26 Nov - 10 December
  • Deduction of 25% of the course fee and GST taxes as applicable. Balance will be refunded.
Between  11- 20 December
  • Deduction of 50% of the course fee and GST taxes as applicable. Balance will be refunded.
After 21 December
  • Deduction of 100% of the course fee.

* All refunds will be processed after the programme, towards the end of January 2021.
