Malabika Sarkar is former Vice-Chancellor, Ashoka University. She joined Ashoka in 2015, and in her tenure of eight years, she served as Ashoka’s first Dean of Faculty and Research, Vice-Chancellor and the Principal Academic Advisor.

Earlier, she was Vice-Chancellor, Presidency University and Professor of English, Jadavpur University. She now serves as Mentor, TGC CREST. She is an elected Life Member of Clare Hall College, University of Cambridge, where she was earlier a Visiting Fellow.

Primarily a Miltonist, with a special interest in the History of Science and Romantic Literature, her books, book chapters and journal articles reflect these areas of interest.

Malabika was the founding president of the Centre for Studies in Romantic Literature for 25 years and Chair of the Centre’s annual international conferences. Since 2014, she is the president of the Women’s Coordinating Council in West Bengal, an apex body with more than 70 affiliated NGOs.

Malabika holds a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the English Association.
