Rutuja Chavan

YIF Class of 2025

BA, Humanities, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru

Attending a school co-founded by Teach For India, Akanksha, Thermax, and the Pune Municipal Corporation seemed like being at the Hogwarts of social change to Rutuja. This unique education profoundly impacted her principles and aspirations and sparked an enduring interest in the development sector, which she pursued while earning a liberal arts degree at Azim Premji University.

After graduation, Rutuja spent two years with the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR), working closely with rural communities across India. This experience deepened her understanding of marginalised populations’ challenges and strengthened her commitment to social equity and justice.

An avid storyteller, Rutuja is passionate about uncovering the resilience of underprivileged communities and aspires to drive change through media, communications, and storytelling. She views the Young India Fellowship as an opportunity to refine her skills through its multidisciplinary approach while continuing her three-year love for ultimate frisbee, a sport that reflects her dedication to teamwork and resilience.

Through the YIF, Rutuja aims to become a changemaker, using her experiences to spotlight untold stories and advocate for socioeconomic justice.
