Shweata hails from a small town near Mysuru and has always been passionate about science and problem-solving. During her time as a trainee science teacher at the Regional Institute of Education, she recognised the importance of effective science communication. This led her to co-found IndiaAsksWhy, a science podcast aimed at engaging high school students with cutting-edge biology research and the scientific process.
The pandemic introduced Shweata to the open science movement through the #semanticClimate project, where she managed outreach for efforts to simplify complex climate reports. This experience deepened her interest in open-source tools and advocacy for open science, which she continues to champion through hackathons. In her free time, Shweata enjoys reading and occasionally singing.
Motivated by the need for multidisciplinary solutions to global challenges like climate change and misinformation, she views the YIF as the perfect platform to gain hands-on, interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to drive meaningful impact.
